Frameless glass balustrade or railing is made up of the inferior aluminum u channel for holding the glass. Alternatives include spigot frameless glass railing or standoff frameless glass railing. There are 3 important aspects for choosing the right glass railing: what type and thickness of glass is used, the correct fixing agents to hold the railing mounting safely and the bottom aluminum channel that seats the glass.
This railing product is an excellent choice for balconies and mezzanines as well as decks. It can be used for stairs also, but in terms of total cost there are better glass railing alternatives to achieve the same frameless glass railing look on stairs.
To decide what frameless glass railing to use, you need to decide whether you want a top mount or side mount on the ledge. If the frameless glass railing is to be used for residential project, it should be ½” (12.7mm) mm toughened glass minimum. If it’s to be for a commercial installation, we need to use at least 5/8” (16mm) toughened glass minimum. Ideally to prevent broken glass from falling onto inferior areas and to maintain it in place laminating of the glass railing should also be done. The fixing agents used should be chemical bonding type, preferably epoxy based.
